Mike Tamassian, Ph.D.
Licensed Clinical Psychologist
I am a licensed clinical psychologist with more than 20 years of experience helping individuals navigate emotional difficulties, psychological challenges, and patterns that can interfere with their well-being and relationships. I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP), an APA-accredited doctoral program.
An important focus of my practice is helping individuals navigate significant life transitions, including changes in relationships, careers, personal circumstances, and one’s sense of identity. Such transitions can bring uncertainty, anxiety, and difficult emotional questions. My work focuses on helping clients understand these experiences, develop effective ways of coping, and approach change with greater clarity and confidence.
Throughout my career, I have developed extensive experience working with older adults, helping them navigate the emotional and psychological complexities that can accompany later stages of life. These may include changes in health, retirement, grief and loss, shifting family relationships, and questions of identity, purpose, and meaning. I recognize that these experiences are deeply personal and that aging can bring opportunities for reflection and personal growth alongside its challenges.
My clinical experience also includes treating anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, stress, and other emotional and psychological concerns. I recognize that each person brings a unique history, perspective, and set of circumstances to therapy, and I believe that effective treatment begins with understanding the individual rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach.
My therapeutic approach is collaborative and integrative, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Psychodynamic Therapy. I incorporate psychodynamic theories to help clients explore unconscious processes, longstanding emotional patterns, and the influence of past experiences on present-day relationships and behavior. CBT and ACT provide complementary approaches for examining unhelpful thinking patterns, developing psychological flexibility, and taking meaningful action consistent with personal values.
I place considerable importance on insight, self-reflection, and the therapeutic relationship. Therapy offers an opportunity to understand recurring patterns, examine longstanding beliefs, and develop a deeper awareness of oneself. My goal is to provide a thoughtful, supportive environment where clients feel comfortable exploring difficult experiences and working toward meaningful personal change.
I provide in-person therapy in Glendale and online therapy throughout California.
